How we monitor our exams to ensure your learning is genuine
This title, which I hope has caught your attention, paraphrases one of the most famous phrases in contemporary politics: “It’s the economy, stupid.” Its power lies in pointing, without beating around the bush, to what is considered fundamental. We borrow it with that same intention: to remind ourselves that we are talking about a profession, and that practising it requires preparation.

Most of our students take their education seriously. They study, put in the effort, and complete their exams honestly, with the aim of improving their professional skills. However, there may always be someone who is tempted to look for shortcuts or try to obtain a grade by copying, receiving outside assistance, or using unauthorized resources.
At KALU, however, we do not believe in collecting certificates for their own sake or in creating artificial obstacles. We want our students to acquire technical skills that they can apply in their real work. That is precisely why it matters to us that our exams have value and that grades reflect what each student actually knows how to do.
To guarantee this, to recognize the effort of those who genuinely study, and to prevent unfair advantages while protecting the credibility of our certificates, we use, among other measures, Quilgo. Quilgo is an online exam monitoring system—also known as proctoring—integrated into our virtual campus. The objective is not to monitor for the sake of monitoring, but to ensure that the exam continues to be an assessment of students’ real skills.
These types of systems activate the camera and other monitoring tools that observe both what is happening in the student’s environment and their activity on the computer. This must be accompanied by a strict protocol so that, once fraudulent behaviour has been verified, severe measures are taken.
How does the system work?
During the exam, Quilgo records different types of evidence related to how the assessment is completed and automatically analyses the session to detect potential incidents. It then generates a report that allows any attempts showing unusual behaviour or requiring additional verification to be reviewed.
The system uses various technologies to evaluate the consistency of each exam and assigns confidence indicators that help identify the cases requiring a more detailed review.
In this way, an exam is not assessed solely on its final result. The information generated during the exam and the consistency of the evidence collected are also taken into account.
But, as everything in life can be improved, we have gone one step further by developing our own tools to complement Quilgo’s functionality.
Our system automatically brings together all supervised exams into a single dashboard, allowing any detected incidents to be reviewed quickly and systematically.
In addition, it includes:
- Automatic classification of attempts according to their level of risk.
- Automatic alerts to ensure that cases requiring review do not go unnoticed.

- Full integration with Moodle and our academic management system.
These improvements allow us to dedicate more time to analysing the cases that are truly relevant and to strengthen the reliability of the assessment process.
A message to our students
We have tried to design engaging courses that improve the performance of humanitarian workers. We have selected the content that truly adds value and discarded anything that has no direct professional application. We also know that it is not always easy to find the time needed to study.
But it would be foolish to waste the opportunity these courses give you to improve your skills and connect with other humanitarian workers like you.
If you prepare properly and take the exam as normal, you have nothing to worry about.
But if you intend to cheat, you should know that we have the technical means to detect it and a firm determination to act decisively.
